From the writer/director of the cult science fiction heavy metal feature film of the same name, Sons of Steel is the first book in the epic series of the reluctant time traveller ‘Black Alice’.
Tough as an old pair of leather Cuban heeled boots with a take-no-prisoners attitude, famous heavy metal singer and leader of the Octagon Peace Movement, Black Alice, is the voice of the people of this dystopian realm. Branded a dissident by the government, the Secret Police learn the Octagon will stage a demonstration against a US nuclear submarine that will arrive in Sydney harbour.
Fearing riots, the President orders Alice eliminated. The SS solicit government scientist Secta to dupe Alice into having a hologram made of him. Secta conspires to dematerialise him into digital bits to be permanently lost in the ether. The ruse succeeds and Alice vanishes.
However, in a twist of fate, he is accidentally freed from his digital prison 200 years into a post apocalyptic future. Trapped in the subterranean remains of Sydney, he fights for survival against mutant beasts, unearthly monsters and blood thirsty barbaric warlords in a desperate bid to discover why his world had been annihilated.
Gary Keady was born in Kingsford, in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. He attended Sydney Grammar School and in 1975 left the family opal business to pursue a career in the arts. Gary is an accomplished and qualified writer, producer, director, film editor, composer and author with a large range of credits in film, television, sound recordings and composing. He has created original programming, and has successfully sold his own work around the world.
Gary achieved early success as founder, song-writer and motivator behind the internationally acclaimed eighties heavy metal band Black Alice.
The book ‘Sons of Steel’ is based on the award-winning Australian science fiction feature film of the same name, written and directed by Gary Keady. The film premiered at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival and later won critical acclaim with official selection at the 7th Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film. It was inducted as a national treasure into the Australian Film and TV National Archives and then later that year Gary re-edited ‘Sons of Steel’ into the director’s cut, which premiered at the 2010 Revelation Film Festival in Perth, Western Australia.
Gary also wrote and directed the 52-episode international television science fiction comedy series ‘P-Max’.
