How traditional Publishing Works

  1. Filament Publishing Ltd, at its own discretion, may offer ‘traditional publishing’ to authors who meet specific criteria, subject to their manuscript being accepted by our editorial department.
  2. We restrict the offer of traditional publishing to authors who
    1. Have a high level of visibility in the press and broadcast media.
    2. Are recognised and respected in their professional field.
    3. Are active on social media and have grown a significant following.
    4. have a track record of substantial sales through the book trade.
    5. remain active, maintaining their public profile and promoting their books.
  3. We define traditional publishing as when the publisher provides a number of specific editorial, production and distribution services which are funded by the income from book sales rather than from a contribution by the author.
  4. Any services which are outside this definition will be identified prior to the commencement of the project.
  5. This might include
    1. Ghost-writing, editorial and proofreading work to prepare the manuscript prior to submission.
  6. Financial model – All net income from book sales is split equally between the author and the publisher, once the cost of origination, printing and distribution has been deducted. Neither party receives income till costs are paid.
